About Siemens

Siemens is a global technology company focused on industry, infrastructure, transportation and digital transformation.

By combining automation and physical infrastructure with software, data and artificial intelligence, Siemens helps manufacturers, buildings, power grids and transportation networks become more productive and efficient.

From the Telegraph to Global Technology

Siemens was founded in Berlin in 1847 by inventor Werner von Siemens and precision mechanic Johann Georg Halske.

The company began with Werner von Siemens’ pointer telegraph. Soon after, it helped build one of Europe’s first long-distance telegraph lines between Berlin and Frankfurt.

Over more than 175 years, Siemens expanded from electrical engineering into automation, infrastructure, transportation and industrial software.

Automation and the Digital Enterprise

Industrial technology remains at the centre of Siemens.

Its Digital Industries business provides automation, industrial software and digitalisation technologies used across manufacturing and process industries.

Siemens states that around 33% of machines worldwide run on a Siemens controller, while 92% of Fortune 500 companies use its software.

Through digital twins and connected automation, manufacturers can design, simulate and optimise products, factories and production processes before making changes in the physical world.

Artificial intelligence is becoming a major part of Siemens’ strategy.

The company combines industrial data with AI through Siemens Xcelerator, its open digital business platform, alongside digital twins, industrial copilots and software-defined automation. Siemens plans to invest more than €1 billion in AI over three years.

In 2026, Siemens expanded its partnership with NVIDIA to develop an Industrial AI Operating System and introduced Digital Twin Composer for creating industrial-scale digital environments.

Its acquisition of Altair Engineering for approximately US$10 billion in 2025 also strengthened Siemens in simulation, high-performance computing, data science and industrial AI.

Building Smarter Infrastructure

Through Smart Infrastructure, Siemens provides technologies for buildings, electrification and power grids.

Its portfolio includes building automation, energy management, electrical distribution, grid-control software, fire safety and security systems.

Smart Infrastructure generated approximately €23.0 billion in revenue in fiscal 2025, reflecting growing demand for electrification, energy efficiency and intelligent infrastructure.

Platforms such as Building X and Gridscale X use digital technology to improve building performance and help electricity networks operate more efficiently.

Transforming Rail and Mobility

Siemens is also a major global rail technology provider through Siemens Mobility.

Its portfolio includes trains, locomotives, rail infrastructure, signalling, electrification, maintenance and digital services.

In Q3 fiscal 2026, Siemens Mobility recorded €7.6 billion in orders and approximately €3.2 billion in revenue, supported by major rail and maintenance contracts across Europe.

Digital technologies increasingly support predictive maintenance, network management and more efficient railway operations.

A Long-Standing Presence Across Asia

Asia plays an important role in Siemens’ global strategy, with China and India specifically identified as strategic growth regions alongside the United States.

Siemens maintains extensive operations across markets including China, India, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and other parts of Southeast Asia.

India hosts numerous Siemens manufacturing, engineering and software locations, including facilities across Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune, Nashik and other cities.

In Malaysia, Siemens recorded its first local sale in 1908 and later established manufacturing operations in Penang and Melaka.

This long-standing Asian presence connects Siemens with some of the world’s fastest-growing manufacturing, infrastructure and technology markets.

Global Scale and Business Strength

For fiscal 2025, Siemens generated:

  • €78.9 billion in revenue
  • €10.4 billion in net income
  • €11.8 billion in Industrial Business profit
  • approximately 318,000 employees worldwide

Momentum continued into fiscal 2026.

For the third quarter ended June 30, 2026, Siemens reported €20.8 billion in revenue, record orders of €27.9 billion and record Industrial Business profit of €3.5 billion. Net income reached €2.6 billion.
