About Salesforce
Salesforce is one of the world’s leading customer relationship management and enterprise software companies, helping organisations manage sales, customer service, marketing, commerce, data and artificial intelligence through cloud-based technology.
Today, its strategy increasingly centres on connecting business applications, trusted data and AI agents through a unified platform.
From a San Francisco Apartment to Cloud CRM
Salesforce was founded in 1999 by Marc Benioff, Parker Harris, Frank Dominguez and Dave Moellenhoff.
The company began in a one-bedroom apartment in San Francisco with a vision of delivering customer relationship management software over the internet rather than through traditional installed enterprise software.
That cloud-based subscription model became central to Salesforce’s growth and helped reshape how businesses purchase and use enterprise software.
Building the Customer 360 Platform
Salesforce has expanded well beyond its original sales-management software.
Its platform now connects tools for sales, service, marketing, commerce, analytics and industry-specific workflows, giving organisations a more unified view of customers and business activity.
This Customer 360 approach allows companies to combine information from different departments rather than keeping customer data isolated across separate systems.
Agentforce and the Shift to AI Agents

Artificial intelligence has become one of Salesforce’s biggest strategic priorities.
Agentforce allows organisations to build and deploy AI agents capable of performing tasks across customer service, sales and other business processes using Salesforce data and workflows.
By the end of Q2 FY2027, Agentforce annual recurring revenue had exceeded US$1.5 billion, growing more than 240% year over year. Salesforce also reported that Agentforce and Data 360 together had reached nearly US$3.9 billion in annual recurring revenue.
Salesforce said its Agentforce and Slack systems had delivered 7 billion Agentic Work Units to date by July 2026, reflecting growing production use of AI agents.
Data as the Foundation for AI
AI systems depend heavily on reliable and connected business data.
Salesforce’s Data 360 platform helps organisations bring together information from different systems so applications and AI agents can work with more complete customer context.
The company strengthened this capability by completing its acquisition of Informatica in November 2025, adding data integration, governance, data quality, privacy and master-data management technologies to the Salesforce platform.
The combination reflects Salesforce’s strategy of connecting AI with trusted enterprise data rather than treating AI as a standalone application.
Slack and the Future of Work
Salesforce completed its acquisition of Slack in July 2021, bringing workplace communication and collaboration into its enterprise software ecosystem.
Slack increasingly acts as an interface where employees can access Salesforce data, workflows and AI tools without constantly switching between applications.
In Q2 FY2027, Salesforce reported that Slack achieved its fastest quarterly growth in net new annual order value since the acquisition, while Slackbot users increased more than 150% quarter over quarter.
From Agentforce to AIforce
At Dreamforce 2026, Salesforce introduced AIforce, a new interface layer designed to bring Salesforce data, workflows, business logic and governance into different AI environments.
Rather than requiring users to work entirely inside a traditional Salesforce interface, AIforce is designed to let AI systems interact with Salesforce capabilities wherever employees and agents are already working.
The announcement reflects Salesforce’s broader shift from cloud CRM toward an enterprise platform built around humans working alongside AI agents.

Subscription and support revenue reached approximately US$39.4 billion, while operating cash flow totalled US$15.0 billion.
Growth continued into fiscal 2027.

- US$11.3 billion in revenue
- US$10.8 billion in subscription and support revenue
- US$33.5 billion in current remaining performance obligations
- nearly US$3.9 billion in Agentforce and Data 360 ARR
