About UPS

UPS is one of the world’s largest package delivery and logistics companies, providing transportation, delivery, freight, customs brokerage, contract logistics and supply chain solutions.

The company serves customers across more than 200 countries and territories and delivered an average of 20.8 million packages per day in 2025.

From a $100 Loan to Global Logistics

UPS began on August 28, 1907, when Jim Casey and Claude Ryan started the American Messenger Company in a Seattle basement with a US$100 loan.

As the business expanded beyond Seattle, the United Parcel Service name debuted in 1919. That same year, its vehicles began using the brown colour that later became closely associated with the UPS brand.

International expansion accelerated during the following decades, transforming UPS from a local messenger operation into a global logistics network.

Building an Integrated Delivery Network

UPS combines ground transportation, air freight, package sorting and international logistics within a large integrated network.

In 1988, the company received approval to operate its own airline, formally establishing UPS Airlines.

By 2025, UPS owned or operated 295 jet aircraft, alongside approximately 125,000 package cars, vans, tractors and motorcycles across its wider delivery fleet.

This network allows UPS to connect businesses and consumers across domestic and international markets.

Growing in Healthcare Logistics

Healthcare has become an important growth area for UPS.

UPS Healthcare provides specialised logistics for pharmaceuticals, medical devices, laboratories and clinical trials, including temperature-controlled transportation and storage.

In 2025, UPS strengthened these capabilities by acquiring Frigo-Trans and BPL in Europe and later completing its US$1.6 billion acquisition of Andlauer Healthcare Group in North America.

The acquisitions expanded UPS’s cold-chain and time-critical capabilities for products that require precise temperature and handling conditions.

AI and Smarter Logistics

Technology has long been central to UPS operations, and artificial intelligence is increasingly being used across its network.

In 2026, UPS detailed a range of AI, automation and advanced analytics initiatives designed to improve package visibility, network planning, customer service and operational decision-making.

The company is using AI to simplify processes across areas ranging from customer onboarding to how packages are planned, moved and delivered.

The goal is to make a vast logistics network more predictable, efficient and responsive.

Asia Pacific as a Growth Region

Asia Pacific remains an important part of UPS’s international network.

In 2025, UPS expanded its intra-Asia air network, adding capacity between major regional markets and improving delivery times on routes connecting Vietnam, China, Hong Kong and Australia.

In March 2026, UPS opened its Taoyuan International Logistics Center in Taiwan, its largest and most advanced logistics facility in Asia Pacific.

The more than 81,000-square-metre facility uses advanced automation and more than doubled UPS’s warehouse footprint in Taiwan.

These investments support fast-growing regional industries including technology, healthcare, industrial manufacturing and automotive.

Global Scale

UPS generated approximately US$88.7 billion in revenue in 2025.

During the year, the company:

  • Delivered approximately 5.2 billion packages
  • Averaged 20.8 million packages per day
  • Employed approximately 460,000 people
  • Generated US$18.6 billion in International Package revenue

For the second quarter of 2026, UPS reported US$22.8 billion in consolidated revenue and US$930 million in reported operating profit.

UPS’s third-quarter 2026 results are scheduled for release on October 27, 2026, so they are not included here.

A More Focused Global Operating Model

UPS introduced a new global operating structure in September 2026 to improve efficiency and strengthen coordination across its businesses.

The model places greater emphasis on connecting international operations, healthcare, supply chain solutions, digital technology and commercial strategy across the wider UPS network.

Carol B. Tomé remains Chief Executive Officer, while the company continues to focus on areas including healthcare, international logistics, business-to-business services and small and medium-sized businesses.

Why UPS Is Featured on ASIA Best Brands

UPS demonstrates how a delivery company can evolve into a global logistics and supply chain network.

From a US$100 messenger business in Seattle to international package delivery, UPS Airlines, healthcare logistics and AI-powered operations, the company has continually adapted to changes in global commerce.

Its continuing investments across Taiwan, China, Vietnam, Australia and wider Asia Pacific also reflect the importance of the region to modern supply chains.

By combining global connectivity, logistics expertise, technology and specialised services, UPS remains one of the world’s most influential logistics brands featured on ASIA Best Brands.
