About Zara
Zara is the flagship fashion brand of Inditex, one of the world’s largest fashion retail groups.
Founded in A Coruña, Spain, in 1975, Zara has built its international identity around fashion design, frequent product renewal, integrated stores and e-commerce, and a highly responsive retail model.
In 2025, Zara celebrated the 50th anniversary of its first store, marking five decades since the brand began in A Coruña.
From A Coruña to a Global Fashion Brand
Amancio Ortega opened the first Zara store in A Coruña in 1975, several years after beginning his textile manufacturing activities in Spain.
Zara later became the first retail chain of what developed into the Inditex Group, expanding internationally as its integrated approach to design, sourcing, logistics and retail gained scale.
Today, Zara remains Inditex’s largest and most internationally recognised fashion brand.
A Responsive Approach to Fashion
Zara’s business model is built around responding quickly to changing customer preferences.
Rather than relying exclusively on long seasonal cycles, the brand continually refreshes products and uses information from stores and online channels to understand demand.
This model is supported by Inditex’s integrated design, sourcing, logistics and retail infrastructure, allowing fashion products to move through the system with considerable flexibility.
The approach helped establish Zara as one of the most influential names in modern fashion retail.
Stores Meet Digital Retail

Zara increasingly combines physical stores with digital shopping.
Inditex continues to invest in technologies including Click & Collect systems, assisted self-checkout, automated collection points and new security technology across its retail network.
In 2025, Zara also introduced an AI-powered Try-On feature, available in 26 markets, allowing customers to explore garment combinations, silhouettes and potential outfits digitally.
The integration of stores and online platforms has become central to how Zara develops its customer experience.
Fashion, Image and Creative Collaborations

Zara has increasingly positioned itself beyond basic apparel retail through photography, design projects and collaborations with major creative figures.
For its 50th anniversary in 2025, Zara worked with 50 creators, including Kate Moss, Annie Leibovitz, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford and David Bailey, on a collection of exclusive pieces.
The anniversary also included The Film, directed by Steven Meisel and featuring 50 international models.
These projects reinforce Zara’s connection with global fashion and creative culture.
Expanding Circular Services
Zara is also developing services designed to extend the useful life of clothing.
Zara Pre-Owned provides options including garment repair, customer-to-customer resale and donations.
By the end of Inditex’s 2025 financial year, Zara Pre-Owned was operating in 17 markets.
The initiative forms part of Inditex’s broader efforts around circularity, lower-impact materials and reducing the environmental footprint of its operations.
Sustainability Across the Wider Inditex System
Zara’s sustainability initiatives operate within Inditex’s broader environmental strategy.
In 2025, 88% of fibres used across Inditex products came from materials classified by the Group as having a lower environmental impact, including recycled fibres and materials originating from organic or regenerative farming.
Inditex also reported an 11% reduction in total emissions covered by its science-based targets compared with 2018.
These are Inditex Group-level figures, rather than standalone Zara statistics.
A Strong Presence Across Asia
Asia remains important to Zara’s international retail network.
In 2025, Zara opened major stores at Noon Square in Seoul, South Korea, and Shinsaibashi in Osaka, Japan. The brand also continued operating across major Asian markets including China, Japan, South Korea, India and Southeast Asia.
The region combines some of the world’s largest consumer markets with highly developed fashion, e-commerce and mobile-shopping cultures.
Zara’s strong physical and digital presence allows it to respond to these different markets while maintaining a consistent global brand identity.
Part of the Inditex Group
Zara is part of Inditex, whose portfolio also includes Pull&Bear, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Stradivarius, Oysho, Zara Home and Lefties.
At the end of fiscal 2025, Inditex operated 5,460 stores across 97 markets across all of its brands.
For fiscal 2025, Inditex recorded €39.9 billion in revenue and approximately €6.2 billion in net profit.
These figures represent the entire Inditex Group, not Zara alone.
